Student Development & Support Services Team

Mandurah Senior College has made a strong commitment to students in this area. In place to support and assist students in their over-all development is a well resourced Student Services Centre consisting of a Manager, 4 x Student Services Officers, AIEO, Nurse, CSP Co-ordinator and Psychologist. The roles are diverse, providing students assistance during the year in a range of issues including course and career counselling, tertiary education information, general counselling and support. All Student Services Officers are qualified teachers who have under taken professional development to provide specialist skills to respond to student needs beyond the Advocate level.

“As manager of Student Development and Support Services my role involves the coordination and development of programs to engage students in their learning to attain graduation and suitable placement for further study and employment”.

 

“School Psychologists work in schools to provide psychological counselling and support to students. I am available on Monday afternoons and all day Wednesday at MSC.  Appointments are made through Student Services.’

Indigenous Support
“Part of my role involves planning events such as the College Ball, Year 12 Guest Speakers and Graduation. Other duties involve counselling students on a range of issues relating to their education now, career aspirations for the future and the laying of foundations for the attainment of life-long goals. I am a qualified JIIG-CAL/Career Voyager consultant”. “As the Aboriginal & Islander Education Officer (AIEO) my role is to assist the Indigenous students and liaise with parents, teachers and community to work collaboratively towards achieving academic goals. I am a qualified Noongar LOTE teacher and have a Cert III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care.
Part of my role is also involved in the Bilyidar Program and Follow the Dream. I also plan NAIDOC, Harmony Day and Reconciliation Day events at the College”.

Community Volunteer Program
“As a Student Development and Support Services Officer I enjoy working with students to help them achieve their education goals. I offer counselling with regards to educational programs and career guidance, to aid students in making appropriate and rewarding choices that will lead to their successful transition into the workplace or an offer of a placement at a tertiary educational institute. In addition to this I also assist in reviewing each student’s education progress towards graduation after completion of Year 11 and where necessary develop individual strategies to assist them in reaching graduation requirements. I am a qualified JIIG-CAL/Career Voyager consultant”.

 

“I assist MSC students in completing their 20 hours of Community Volunteering. I have developed relationships with several community service organisations to provide activities on and off site. I will record student hours and collect their log books. “

“My role as a Student Services Officer involves counselling students on a range of issues with particular emphasis on careers and post-school destinations such as TAFE and University. I respond to referrals from staff regarding behaviour, attendance and academic progress. The majority of my time is spent in students’ initiated appointments discussing all aspects of their educational programs and the attainment of their goals in life. I am a qualified JIIG-CAL/Career Voyager consultant”.

 

The Attendance officer monitors the attendance of students at the college to provide feedback for parents and staff and assists students to improve their attendance and thus their educational potential.

“In this role I enjoy meeting students who I may have not had the pleasure of teaching yet and help them resolve personal or educational issues. The majority of my time is taken up meeting with students to discuss these issues. I am also responsible for putting together the student newsletter, which promotes what is going on in the college as well as student achievements. . I am a qualified JIIG-CAL/Career Voyager consultant”
 

 

“I am the receptionist for Student Development and Support Services. I can assist students by directing them to appropriate people and make appointments for them”.

“My role as the School Nurse is to promote a healthy environment and healthy behaviours within the school community. I am involved in health promotion, health education and I am able to counsel on health issues and refer to relevant support agencies. I am also a resource person for students wishing to research into various health topics. I work closely with other members of staff and encourage all students to become responsible for their health and promote healthy lifestyle choices”.
